Isobar excitation in proton-proton bremsstrahlung
1978
Abstract The contribution of intermediate nucleon isobars to proton-proton bremsstrahlung is calculated in a relativistic model. Using conventional coupling constants and form factors for the exchange of π - and ρ-mesons we find that for photon energies ω > 100 MeV isobar excitation increases the cross section markedly over the prediction of soft-photon calculations. Our results agree well with recent experiments at incident proton energy T lab =730 MeV.
Radiative return at NLO and the measurement of the hadronic cross-section in electron–positron annihilation
2001
Electron-positron annihilation into hadrons plus an energetic photon from initial state radiation allows the hadronic cross-section to be measured over a wide range of energies. The full next-to-leading order QED corrections for the cross-section for e^+ e^- annihilation into a real tagged photon and a virtual photon converting into hadrons are calculated where the tagged photon is radiated off the initial electron or positron. This includes virtual and soft photon corrections to the process e^+ e^- \to \gamma +\gamma^* and the emission of two real hard photons: e^+ e^- \to \gamma + \gamma + \gamma^*. A Monte Carlo generator has been constructed, which incorporates these corrections and sim…
Soft-photon corrections to the Bethe-Heitler process in the γp→l+l−p reaction
2018
We report on the calculation of first-order quantum electrodynamics (QED) corrections for the $\ensuremath{\gamma}p\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{l}^{+}{l}^{\ensuremath{-}}{p}^{\ensuremath{'}}$ process. An upcoming experiment at MAMI (Mainz) aims to compare the cross sections of muon- and electron-pair production in this reaction to test lepton universality. Precise knowledge of the electromagnetic radiative corrections is needed for these measurements. As a first step, we present the leading QED radiative corrections in the soft-photon approximation when accounting for the finite lepton mass. For the kinematics at MAMI, we find corrections of the percent level for muons, and of order 10% for ele…
Soft-photon radiative corrections to the e−p→e−pl−l+ process
2021
We calculate the leading-order QED radiative corrections to the process ${e}^{\ensuremath{-}}p\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{e}^{\ensuremath{-}}p{l}^{\ensuremath{-}}{l}^{+}$ in the soft-photon approximation, in two different energy regimes which are of relevance to extract nucleon structure information. In the low-energy region, this process is studied to better constrain the hadronic corrections to precision muonic hydrogen spectroscopy. In the high-energy region, the beam-spin asymmetry for double-virtual Compton scattering allows us to directly access the generalized parton distributions. We find that the soft-photon radiative corrections have a large impact on the cross sections and are there…
